Benchmark moved the existing building twenty feet
back from its original location. Prior to moving it,
the existing floor, walls and roof systems were structurally
reinforced.
The interior and exterior wood finishes reflect the
high quality and fine workmanship of this turn-of-the-century
library. The existing fireplace and built-in shelving
and circulation desk remained in place and were restored.
New interior white oak trim on the main floor was
reproduced to match the existing trim along with custom
designed casings, crown molding, chair rails, and
wainscoting.
Benchmark installed all new windows and doors, a
new slate roof with cupolas custom copper flashing,
and red cedar trim and siding.
The second floor features a conference-meeting room,
a kitchen, and an auditorium with a stage. To expand
use of the space, Benchmark installed new theater
lighting, an audio visual system, and an automated
projection screen allowing for a wide range of performance
activities.
The project included all new mechanical systems with
a computerized energy management system and new sprinkler
and electrical systems.
